  • Vienna Stock Exchange: Stock Market Taboo 2024: "AI Bubble" Caused Irritation

    The Austrian capital and financial market community has decided: The stock market taboo word of 2024 is "AI bubble". The hype surrounding companies and stocks that are particularly associated with the technological change surrounding artificial intelligence (AI) continued unabated in 2024. However, the rapid price and value developments of tech companies that are particularly in the spotlight due to AI developments are also fueling debate. Investors, analysts and academics are equally concerned about whether the trend could ultimately end in a burst AI bubble.

    • Market capitalisation was $34.0 trillion at the end of November 2024, an increase of 9 per cent from $31.1 trillion for the same period last year.
    • The average daily turnover in November 2024 was $161.5 billion, an increase of 69 per cent from $95.6 billion for the same period last year.
    • The average daily turnover for the first eleven months of 2024 was $130.9 billion, an increase of 24 per cent when compared with $105.6 billion for the same period last year.
    • The average daily turnover of CBBCs for the first eleven months of 2024 was $6.7 billion, an increase of 10 per cent when compared with $6.1 billion for the same period last year.
    • The average daily turnover of ETFs for the first eleven months of 2024 was $15.8 billion, an increase of 35 per cent when compared with $11.7 billion for the same period last year.
    • The average daily turnover of L&I Products for the first eleven months of 2024 was $2.9 billion, an increase of 26 per cent when compared with $2.3 billion for the same period last year.
    • The average daily turnover of Debt Securities for the first eleven months of 2024 was $550 million, an increase of 22 per cent when compared with $450 million for the same period last year.
    • There were 61 newly listed companies for the first eleven months of 2024, an increase of 3 per cent when compared with 59* for the same period last year.
    • Funds raised through IPOs# for the first eleven months of 2024 was $79.0 billion, an increase of 110 per cent when compared with $37.7 billion for the same period last year.
    • Total funds raised for the first eleven months of 2024 was $168.4 billion, an increase of 28 per cent when compared with $131.3 billion for the same period last year.
