    Good afternoon. Thank you to Dean Miles, Professor Birdthistle and the broader University of Chicago Law School for the kind invitation to join you for today’s event. We can often learn a great deal about the future by looking at the past. About 4,000 years ago (c. 2000 B.C.E.), Phoenician sailors developed charts and observations of the Sun and stars. Early mariners’ compasses were inaccurate or inconsistent because they lacked an understanding of magnetic variation. Later, the astrolabe, sextant, chip log, gyroscopic compass, radar, and GPS replaced earlier, primitive tools.

  • SIFMA Statement On Rescission Of SEC Staff Accounting Bulletin 121

    SIFMA today issued the following statement from SIFMA president and CEO Kenneth E. Bentsen, Jr. on the rescission the SEC’s Staff Accounting Bulletin (SAB) 121:

    “SIFMA commends the SEC for the rescission of Staff Accounting Bulletin (SAB) 121. SAB 121 fundamentally changed the way financial institutions are expected to account for the custody of digital assets, and the SEC originally issued the SAB without stakeholder engagement or consultation with the prudential regulators. The rescission will benefit investors, financial markets, and the broader public by restoring the ability of well-regulated financial institutions to provide digital asset custodial services.”

  • UK Chancellor Appoints David Soanes And Niamh Moloney As Members Of The UK Prudential Regulation Committee

    Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves has today confirmed that David Soanes and Niamh Moloney will join the Prudential Regulation Committee (PRC). They will both serve three-year terms on the Committee, which takes the most important decisions of the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA), one of the UK’s financial regulators.
