UK's Financial Services Authority Fines Nationwide £980,000 For Information Security Lapses

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) has today fined Nationwide Building Society (Nationwide) £980,000 for failing to have effective systems and controls to manage its information security risks. The failings came to light following the theft of a laptop from a Nationwide employee's home last year.

CME To Launch Hurricane Futures And Options On Futures Contract - CME-Carvill Hurricane Index To Be Available For 2007 Hurricane Season

CME, the world’s largest and most diverse financial exchange, announced today that it will expand its weather derivatives product line with a scheduled launch of CME-Carvill Hurricane Index futures and options on futures contracts March 12. The underlying indexes will be calculated by Carvill, a leading independent reinsurance intermediary in specialty reinsurance that tracks and calculates hurricane activity.

New European Commission Website To Answer Stakeholder Questions On Markets In Financial Instruments Directive (“MiFID”)

The European Commission has launched an interactive website where stakeholders, including firms, trade associations and investors, can ask questions relating to the recently finalised Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (2004/39/EC) (MiFID) and its implementing measures. The website allows stakeholders to see the answers to questions already asked, as well as allowing them to ask new questions.

The European Commission has welcomed new rules proposed by the United States (US) Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that would make it much easier for non-US companies listed on US capital markets to deregister from those markets at a time of their choosing, once certain criteria have been fulfilled.
