UK's Treasury Announces Enhanced FSA Powers In Relation To Recognised Exchanges

The Economic Secretary to the Treasury, Ed Balls, announced today that the Government is to legislate to enhance the FSA's powers in relation to recognised exchanges. The FSA will be given the power to veto rule changes proposed by recognised exchanges that would be disproportionate.

The Spanish Exchange today began to trade 85 new warrants, 53 of which were issued by Bankinter and 32 by Societé Générale. With these issues, the number of new warrants traded on the market so far this year is 2,378, hitting a new record.

The Philadelphia Stock Exchange (PHLX) and its wholly owned subsidiary Philadelphia Board of Trade (PBOT) announced today that it will list for trading products on British Bankers’ Association (BBA) LIBOR reference rates on October 6 subject to final regulatory approval. Standard & Poor's will make the following changes in the S&P/TSX Venture Composite Index after the close of trading on Wednesday, September 13, 2006: IROC Systems Corp. (TSXVN:ISC) will be removed from the index. The company will graduate to trade on the TSX under the same ticker symbol. TORR Canada Inc. (TSXVN:TOR) will be removed from the index. The company will graduate to trade on the TSX under the same ticker symbol.

Standard & Poor’s will make the following changes to the S&P/ASX 50 Index effective after the close of trading on Monday, Sept. 18, 2006: Telecom Corporation of New Zealand (Australia, SEDOL: 6881500, GICS Code: 50101020), a member of the S&P/ASX 50 Index, will increase its shares to 1,979,016,561. This change is the result of a distribution-reinvestment plan.
