    We, the G7 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors, met on 23-25 May 2024 in Stresa, Italy. We were honoured to be joined by the Ukrainian Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko. The Heads of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank Group (WBG), Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and Financial Stability Board (FSB) also took part in the meeting.

  • FTSE Russell Begins 36th Annual Russell US Indexes Reconstitution

    • Total US equity market capitalization of the broad market Russell 3000 Index up 20% to $53 trillion as of April 30th rank day.
    • Market cap breakpoint separating small caps (Russell 2000 Index) and large caps (Russell 1000 Index) increased 9.5% to $4.6 billion.
    • Microsoft retakes the top spot from Apple, which had been the largest company from 2021-2023.
    • “Magnificent Seven” companies increased their total market capitalization 43.5% from $9.2 trillion to $13.2 trillion, and all seven companies remain 100% Growth.
    • Technology, Consumer Discretionary and Energy industries lead companies moving up to the Russell 1000 Index, while Health Care companies replenish the Russell 2000 Index, including seven of the 11 Russell 2000 initial public offering (IPO) additions.

  • Nasdaq Announces Mid-Month Open Short Interest Positions In Nasdaq Stocks As Of Settlement Date May 15, 2024

    At the end of the settlement date of May 15, 2024, short interest in 3,063 Nasdaq Global MarketSM securities totaled 11,646,612,058 shares compared with 11,683,381,571 shares in 3,072 Global Market issues reported for the prior settlement date of April 30, 2024. The mid-May short interest represents 3.15 days compared with 3.29 days for the prior reporting period.

    A total turnover of 1.986 billion shares worth N40.715 billion in 38,487 deals was traded this week by investors on the floor of the Exchange, in contrast to a total of 1.652 billion shares valued at N42.677 billion that exchanged hands last week in 38,123 deals.

  • ICE First Look At Mortgage Performance: Continued Improvement In April Leads To Fewest Serious Delinquencies In 18+ Years

    • The national delinquency rate fell to 3.09% in April – its second lowest level on record behind only March 2023’s record low of 2.92% – marking a 22 basis point (bps) improvement from the same time last year
    • Serious delinquencies (loans 90+ days past due but not in active foreclosure) improved to their best level since August 2005, down -17K (-4.0%) from March and -84K (-16.8%) year over year
    • The number of borrowers a single payment past due dropped by 30K to hit an 8-month low, while 60-day delinquencies fell 6K to their lowest level in 10 months
    • The inflow of new 30-day lates along with rolls to later stages of delinquency improved from March, while cures were down among both early and late stage delinquencies
    • Foreclosure starts declined -0.8% from March, pushing the number of loans in active foreclosure to its lowest level since January 2022 – some 30% below (-84K) pre-pandemic levels
    • Though the 5.9K foreclosure sales completed nationally in April represented a 1.5% month-over-month increase, they remain at roughly half pre-pandemic norms
    • Prepayment activity rose to its highest level since August 2023 due to a seasonal upswing in home sales, despite consumers still facing rate-driven affordability and refinance headwinds
