FSI, ICI, IRI, SIFMA Urge Senate Passage Of Financial Exploitation Prevention Act - Call Comes Ahead Of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

As World Elder Abuse Awareness Day approaches, the Financial Services Institute (FSI), the Investment Company Institute (ICI), the Insured Retirement Institute, and the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) call on senators to pass the Financial Exploitation Prevention Act (S. 1841) and for President Biden to sign it into law. The bill aims to protect vulnerable adults from financial exploitation by permitting companies to postpone securities redemption if they suspect exploitation of seniors or individuals unable to protect their interests.

US Justice Department Repatriates $1.4B Misappropriated 1MDB Funds To Malaysia

The Justice Department announced today that it has repatriated an additional $156 million in misappropriated 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) funds to the people of Malaysia, bringing the total returned by the department to approximately $1.4 billion.

EBA Issues Revised List Of ITS Validation Rules

The European Banking Authority (EBA) issued today a revised list of validation rules in its Implementing Technical Standards (ITS) on supervisory reporting, highlighting those, which have been deactivated either for incorrectness or for triggering IT problems. Competent Authorities throughout the EU are informed that data submitted in accordance with these ITS should not be formally validated against the set of deactivated rules.

CFTC Permanently Revokes Registrations Of Mississippi-Based Commodity Trading Advisor And Associated Person

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission today issued an opinion and order revoking the registrations of Ted Brent Alexander of Jackson, Mississippi. The CFTC filed a Notice of Intent to Revoke Registration Pursuant to Section 8a(2) of the Commodity Exchange Act (CEA) against Alexander on March 13, 2024. [See CFTC Press Release No. 8876-24]. The CFTC action is based on Alexander’s guilty plea to conspiracy to commit wire fraud in a federal criminal case.
