  • SIFMA: SECURE Act Of 2019 Deserves Strong Bipartisan Support

    SIFMA today issued the following statement from President and CEO Kenneth E. Bentsen, Jr. on H.R. 1994, the Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement (SECURE) Act of 2019, which is expected to be voted on this week:

    “The American retirement system has helped millions of Americans prepare for a secure retirement. The SECURE Act will help even more Americans realize this benefit. This legislation takes important steps toward enhancing the private retirement system and increasing retirement savings by encouraging small businesses to offer retirement savings plans and individuals to utilize the options that are available to enjoy retirement security.  These commonsense provisions deserve strong bipartisan support.”

  • ISDA CDM Deployed To Help Deliver UK Digital Regulatory Reporting Pilot

    ISDA has today announced the deployment of the ISDA Common Domain Model (ISDA CDM 2.0) to support the UK Financial Conduct Authority, the Bank of England and participating financial institutions in testing phase two of the digital regulatory reporting (DRR) pilot for derivatives.

  • Alberta Securities Commission: Securities Act Confidentiality Provision Ruled Constitutional

    Justice B. Millar of the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta has rejected a constitutional attack against section 45 of the Securities Act (Alberta) (the Act), which provides that anything acquired and all information or evidence obtained pursuant to an investigation is confidential and shall not be divulged subject to certain exceptions.

  • TEXPERS REPORT: Pew Charitable Trusts Misleads On Texas Pension Funds

    Executive Summary:

    Over the years, the Texas Association of Public Employees Retirement Systems has called into question the objectivity of Pew Charitable Trusts’ reports on public employee pensions. In sum, the organization has proven itself biased against defined benefit plans for police, firefighters, teachers, and state and municipal employees. Their May 2019 report, “Municipalities Grapple with Retirement System Shortfalls,” is similarly biased in our opinion and should also be viewed skeptically with regards to Texas systems.
