Getting Ready For The End Of The Transition Period With The UK: European Commission Adopts “Readiness” Communication

The European Commission has today adopted a Communication to help national authorities, businesses and citizens prepare for the inevitable changes that will arise at the end of the transition period. Changes will occur to cross-border exchanges between the EU and the UK as of 1 January 2021– irrespective of whether an agreement on a future partnership has been concluded or not.

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission today announced that LabCFTC will present Empower Innovation 2020, a series of interactive virtual events throughout the fall. The three-part series will facilitate a dialogue among innovators, regulators, market participants, and the public around cutting-edge fintech innovation. In light of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, the Empower Innovation 2020 series will be held in lieu of the 2020 Fintech Forward conference.

Overall, the first quarter saw an increase in volumes versus Q1 2019. This was primarily driven by the sudden outbreak of COVID-19, which led to an immediate global monetary policy response. Central banks cut rates and reinstated or reinforced their quantitative easing measures, while European countries implemented lock-down policies to prevent the virus from spreading further.

Industry Veteran Bob Takai Joins EEX In Tokyo

Based in Tokyo and reporting directly to EEX’s Chief Operating Officer, Steffen Koehler, Mr Takai will oversee EEX’s activities in Japan to solidify the exchange’s position in the Japanese energy market.

For the first half of 2020, members and market participants have continued to operate under extraordinary working and living conditions. Their commitment to provide liquidity and facilitate best execution for clients, combined with Eurex's robust trading infrastructure, has proven vital to the market. Their support was seen through the substantial volume increases in a number of our benchmark products. EURO STOXX 50® Total Return Futures have been utilized by new clients as an alternative to a passive rolling futures strategy, given the uncertainty due to company dividend postponements and cancellations this year. The MSCI derivatives segment has enjoyed volume growth across several contracts; Japan, EM, World, Europe, EMU, Saudi Arabia, Canada, EM Asia & Latin America. One driver is that Eurex is viewed favorably as a stable venue for these key global contracts, given our long-term partnership with MSCI and the facility to transact during extended trading hours. UBS MTF Market Notice Double Volume Cap Update

Following the ESMA update published on 7 July, UBS MTF would like to inform you of upcoming double volume cap suspension changes this week:
- Effective from the start of trading on 14 July, the DVC suspension ends for 32 instruments on UBS MTF and therefore these instruments will again be available for trading under the Reference Price Waiver.
- Also effective from the start of trading on 10 July, a six-month DVC suspension commences for 15 instruments on UBS MTF, which means that they will not be available under the Reference Price Waiver during this period. These capped instruments remain available for trading under the Large in Scale Waiver as well as on our Periodic Auction Order Book, and an additional six-month DVC re-suspension, for two instruments, will also take effect at the same time.
- Additionally, DVC suspension is revoked for a single instrument effective 10 July.
