Hong Kong Securities And Futures Commission Obtains Disqualification Orders Against Former Senior Executives Of Long Success International (Holdings) Limited

The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) has obtained disqualification orders in the Court of First Instance against the former chief executive officer and executive director of Long Success International (Holdings) Limited (Long Success), Mr Hu Dongguang, and former executive director, Mr Guo Wanda, in the proceedings commenced by the SFC against 13 former directors of the company.

Juniper Research: Regtech Spending To Exceed $130 Billion In 2025; Driven By Digital Onboarding & KYC

A new study from Juniper Research has found that spending on Regtech, systems that enable banks and other heavily regulated sectors to meet their compliance burdens, will exceed $130 billion in 2025, from $33 billion in 2020. The report found that this 290% growth is being fuelled by greater use of AI to automate highly manual tasks and the transition to digital onboarding, which have emerged as critical capabilities in the wake of the pandemic.

The Astrea VI private equity bonds issued this month by Astrea VI Pte. Ltd. have been tokenised by iSTOX (through Prometheus-3 Pte. Ltd.) to reduce the minimum investment ticket by up to 10 times, private market platform iSTOX, which handled the digital token allocation, announced today. This marks the first time digital tokens with exposure to bonds in the Astrea series have been offered.

Securities Commission Malaysia Issues Cease And Desist Order To Seven Unlicensed Operators Offering Investment Advice

The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) had to date, following the issuance of the Guidance Note on Provision of Investment Advice on 30 December 2020, directed seven operators, comprising entities and related individuals, to cease and desist from undertaking all activities in relation to unlicensed investment advice. Providing investment advice is a regulated activity that requires a licence under the Capital Markets and Services Act 2007 (CMSA). Any person carrying on a business of giving investment advice without a licence commits an offence under the CMSA which is punishable with a fine not exceeding RM10 million or imprisonment not exceeding ten years, or both.

I concur in the Commission’s findings that Coinbase, Inc., the owner and operator of an online digital asset exchange, violated anti-manipulation provisions of the Commodity Exchange Act (“CEA”) and the CFTC’s rules based on: 1) reporting false, misleading, or inaccurate transaction information; and 2) secondary, principal-agent liability for wash sales by a former “Employee A.” I write separately, though, to ensure the public is not misled to believe that the CFTC regulates exchanges such as Coinbase.

Two foreign nationals — one Russian, the other North Macedonian national — were sentenced today for their role in the Infraud Organization, a transnational cybercrime enterprise engaged in the mass acquisition and sale of fraud-related goods and services, including stolen identities, compromised credit card data, computer malware, and other contraband.
