KRWQ Launches World’s First KRW Stablecoin Perpetual Futures On EDXM International With Spark Systems, Opening The $60B Korean Won Derivatives Market To On-Chain Trading

KRWQ, the issuer of the first tradable Korean Won (KRW) stablecoin, today announced a strategic partnership with EDXM International and Spark Systems to launch the world’s first Korean Won stablecoin perpetual futures. The contract will launch on EDXM International and be integrated into Spark Systems’ eFX trading platform, enabling buy-side firms such as hedge funds and other institutional FX market participants to access KRW perpetual futures settled in USDC, with traders hedging exposure through KRWQ spot markets. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the digital asset industry, providing a transparent, on-chain alternative to the massive offshore KRW Non-Deliverable Forward (NDF) market, which trades in the tens of billions of USD daily.

Thank you, Eric [Pan] for the kind introduction, and thank you to the Investment Company Institute for inviting me to deliver remarks this morning. Before I continue, I must remind you that my views are my own as a Commissioner and not necessarily those of the Commission or my fellow Commissioners.

I made my first speech as a Commissioner at this conference in 2018. Being back eight years later as my tenure on the Commission draws to a close is a nice bookend. As I reminisced in 2018, I first joined the Commission as a staff member in the Division of Investment Management, so these issues are near and dear to my heart.

At the end of the settlement date of March 13, 2026, short interest in 3,657 Nasdaq Global Market^SM securities totaled 16,179,628,406 shares compared with 15,794,218,322 shares in 3,629 Global Market issues reported for the prior settlement date of February 27, 2026. The mid-March short interest represents 2.42 days compared with 2.64 days for the prior reporting period.
