At the beginning of the week, on May 8, carrying over the strong sentiment that prevailed before the Golden week, OME Aluminium futures opened marginally higher on light short-covering due to the yen's fall to the 109 yen level against the dollar. NYMEX To Increase Margins On Its Eastern Electricity Futures Contracts

The New York Mercantile Exchange will raise the margins on the June, July, and August 2000 contracts for Cinergy, Entergy, and Pennsylvania/New Jersey/Maryland electricity futures contracts to $5,600 from $3,600 for clearing members; to $6,160 from $3,960 for members; and to $7,560 from $4,860 for customers, as of the close of business today.

Nasdaq Nears Completion Of The First Phase Of Its Private Placement - Over 2800 Investors Participate - Over $330 Million Raised - Phase I Expected To Close In June

The National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc. (NASD®), and The Nasdaq Stock Market, Inc. announced today that they have formally accepted 2805 subscriptions in connection with the first phase of the Nasdaq private placement. Since the close of the subscription period on April 28, 2000, the Transfer Agent hired for the transaction has been completing the verification process for all investments, leading to the NASD and Nasdaq® officially accepting the investments at the end of last week.

JET API JSE Member Firms join the system

The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) confirms that nine of its member firms have converted today to the JET API (Johannesburg Equities Trading Application Programme Interface) system. This is the first group of members to join the system since it went live on Monday, 8 May 2000. Another six members are expected to convert by 29 May 2000.

International Securities Exchange Elects William A. Porter As Chairman And Ivers W. Riley As Vice Chairman - ISE Selects Additional Non-Industry Directors And Approves Board Assignments

The International Securities Exchange ("ISE") held its first board meeting last week and in its first course of action, unanimously approved William A. Porter, a co-founder of the ISE, to become the Exchange's first Chairman. In addition, Ivers W. Riley was elected Vice Chairman.
