    A recent report by the President's Working Group (PWG) on Financial Markets to overhaul U.S. risk management markets "unjustifiably tilts the playing field against existing exchanges," according to testimony from the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) presented today to Congress on behalf of Chairman Scott Gordon.

  • CME Lean Hog Futures Set Open Interest Records

    For two consecutive sessions beginning on February 4, open interest in futures on lean hogs has set new records on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), culminating with a record 61,033 open positions on February 7. The previous record was set May 14, 1999, with 60,020 open positions.

  • CBOE Announces Increased Call Strike Flexibility In Equity FLEX® Options

    The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) today announced that Equity FLEX® call strikes will no longer be constrained to standard strikes. Effective immediately Equity FLEX ® call strike prices, as well as put strike prices are available in 1/8th-point increments. According to a recent IRS ruling, the existence of flexible call strikes will have no effect on the determination of "qualified covered call" status, an exemption from the US tax code's straddle rules for exchange-traded options.   • Vodafone Airtouch-Mannesmann Merger - FTSE International and Deutsche Börse to co-operate on changes to FTSE 100 and DAX 30 Indexes

    FTSE International and Deutsche Börse have agreed to co-ordinate the removal of Mannesmann from the DAX 30 index and the insertion of Vodafone Mannesmann in the FTSE 100 and the other relevant FTSE indices. The intention is that, in order to facilitate an orderly market, the constituent changes will occur simultaneously.

  • Temporary Disruption Of Trading Terminals At The Stock Exchange Of Hong Kong

    Interruption in power supply caused a temporary disruption of operations at the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong's trading terminals at 3:10pm February 8. There were also technical delays in the use of the reserve power supply system. The trading terminals resumed operation in succession after about twenty minutes.

  • Nymex to Increase Margins on Platinum Futures

    The New York Mercantile Exchange today announced that it will increase the margins on its platinum futures contract as of the close of business tomorrow to $1,600 from $1,100 for clearing members; to $1,760 from $1,210 for members; and to $2,160 from $1,485 for customers.

  • Nasdaq Composite Index Sets New Record High - Second Highest Volume Day Also Established

    The Nasdaq Stock Market® celebrated the 29th anniversary of its trading system in record fashion with The Nasdaq Composite® Index closing at 4427.50, up 105.73 points for the day and 8.8 percent for the year. Yesterday's record marks the third consecutive day the Composite has closed at a record high, and the seventh record close of the year.
