    WCE's new-crop commodity values increased, setting numerous new contract highs during the month of July, as well as reaching price levels not seen in a number of years. Weather has played a key role in the up trend in Winnipeg commodity prices, as a heat wave swept across the prairies from late June through the first part of July.

  • Volume Shoots Up 24% At CBOE - Trading In Index Options Increases 101% - Five Volume Records Established

    The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) announced today that total volume for the month of July 2002 shot up 24% over July 2001. Exchange-wide volume for July totaled 28,610,135 options contracts (15,495,655 calls and 13,114,480 puts), compared to 23,011,071 contracts traded in July 2001. Volume in July averaged 1,300,461 contracts daily, an increase of 19% over the average daily volume of 1,095,765 contracts for July, 2001. At the end of July 2002, open interest stood at 86,066,948 contracts,

  • United Arab Emirates Bourse Recovers Ground

    The UAE bourse's Emnex index picked up 1.84 points to close at 2,066.52 points on Wednesday, recouping ground lost over the previous two days. Insurance shares were in demand. So far this year the UAE stock market has not enjoyed the steep rise in value seen in some other GCC bourses, and it remains dogged by poor liquidity and low trading volumes.

    The Chairman of the Capital Market Opportunity Center (CMOC) Ms. Sopawadee Lertmanaschai, announced that "In July, the Daidomon Group Public Co., Ltd. began trading on the Market for Alternative Investment (MAI) on July 30, while Shun Thai Rubber Gloves Industry Public Co., Ltd. initiated trading on August 1. This resulted in a 1,006.70 million baht increase in the market capitalization of the MAI, which was recorded at 2,148.15 million baht (as at August 1, 2002).
