Standard & Poor's Announces Changes In The S&P/TSX Venture Composite Index

Standard & Poor's will make the following changes in the S&P/TSX Venture Composite Index after the close of trading on Tuesday, July 22, 2003: Desert Sun Mining Corp. (TSXVN:DSM) will be removed from the S&P/TSX Venture Composite Index. The company will be delisted from the TSX Venture Exchange as a result of its graduation to the TSX, where it will trade under the ticker "DSM."

American Stock Exchange Reports Increase In Short Interest

The American Stock Exchange (Amex) member and non-member organizations yesterday reported short interest of 655,871,111 shares as of the July 15 settlement date, an increase of 52,833,015 from the 603,038,096 (adjusted) shares reported in mid-June. The July figure represents trades through July 10, 2003.

Winnipeg Commodity Exchange Focus On Feed Wheat Futures

Feed wheat futures prices at Winnipeg Commodity Exchange (WCE) continued a downward trend that started in December 2002 to close the month of June at the lowest levels in two years. The July futures contract closed the month of June at $127.00 per tonne, only $2.00 per tonne off of the intra-day contract low of $125.00 per tonne set on June 24, 2003. This is almost $60 per tonne off the contract high set in January 2003, when the July contract traded as high as $183.50 per tonne.

Winnipeg Commodity Exchange Canola Futures Sees Increase In Volume Over Year-Ago Totals

Activity in WCE canola futures trade was higher for the month of June, up 9.9% at 152,979 contracts, compared to 139,256 contracts traded in June of 2002. Canola futures volume for June 2003 also exceeded last month's (May 2003) volume by 27.3%. Canola futures open interest as of June 30, 2003 was 45,400 contracts, 11.6% above the year-ago level of 40,675 contracts.

Standard & Poor's will make the following changes in the S&P/TSX Venture Composite Index after the close of trading on Monday, July 21, 2003: Pursuant to a special resolution passed by shareholders on July 11, 2003, Northern Empire Minerals Ltd. (TSXVN:NEM) will change its name to Stornoway Diamond Corporation. The company will trade under the new ticker symbol "SWY" and the new CUSIP number 86222Q 10 3. There is no consolidation of capital.
