UK's Financial Services Authority Bans Insurance Cover For Regulatory Fines

Regulated firms and individuals will not be able to use insurance to pay FSA fines under new rules approved yesterday. This change, which comes into effect from 1 January 2004, is intended to ensure that anyone who is fined must pay the fine themselves rather than claim it against insurance.

Tietoenator Acquires Energy Business Operation From OMHEX

TietoEnator has acquired the energy business operation of Retail System, an OMHEX business unit. The acquisition gives TietoEnator access to a Customer Information System (CIS) adapted for the energy sector, POMAX Customer. It also means that about 45 employees will be transferred to TietoEnator in Norway and Sweden. The agreement becomes effective from February 1, 2004.

Standard & Poor's will make the following changes in the S&P/TSX Venture Composite Index after the close of trading on Monday, December 22, 2003: The trading symbol of Banro Corporation (TSXVN:YBE) will change to BNR. There is no change in the company's name and CUSIP number.

The Securities and Exchange Commission today instituted a settled enforcement proceeding against one of North America's largest financial institutions, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), for CIBC's role in Enron Corp.'s manipulation of its financial statements. The SEC also sued three of CIBC's executives, two of whom are settling. ICEX - Business Hours And Holidays During The Christmas Season

Although the Iceland Stock Exchange will be open half-days on Christmas Eve and New Year?s Eve or from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon, it will be closed for trading both these days. Thus the last trading day of the year 2003 will be 30 December. The first trading day of the year 2004 will be Monday, 5 January, as banking institutions in Iceland are closed on 2 January.
