SIFMA Pledges Support for EU Leaders’ Call For Greater Transparency

The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) this morning issued the following statement in response to the joint communiqué issued last night following EU leaders’ mini-summit on recent financial turbulence. The communiqué was made by Gordon Brown and the French President Nicolas Sarkozy, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Italy's premier Romano Prodi and EU Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso. MGEX Daily Electronic Volume Record Falls Once More

For the third time this month, the Minneapolis Grain Exchange (MGEX or Exchange) spring wheat futures market produced a top daily electronic volume record. MGEX volume on the CME Globex® electronic platform Tuesday, Jan. 29 was 6,623 contracts, exceeding the previous record set on Wednesday, Jan. 23 by 99 contracts.

UniCredit Group’s Structured Certificates Linked To Emerging Markets Will Be Available Soon For Polish Investors

The UniCredit Group introduces structured certificates into the Polish market. They will follow the stock indices of Russia, Ukraine, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan and Polish index WIG20. Clients can subscribe these certificates from 21 January 2008 until 8 February 2008 at most of local brokerage houses. The first quotation on the Warsaw Stock Exchange (WSE) is scheduled for 13 February 2008.

London Stock Exchange To Launch Netting Service And Trade Routing Arrangements To Facilitate Competitive Clearing

The London Stock Exchange today announced plans to introduce a post-trade router that will facilitate competition between clearing services. At least four Central Counterparties (CCPs) are expected to enter the UK market in addition to LCH Clearnet Ltd, the existing sole supplier of clearing, and the X-TRM router will support competition between them by eliminating the need to carry out reconciliation work between the CCPs on a bilateral basis.
