MGEX Sets New March Total Trading Volume Record

MGEX, a Designated Contract Market (DCM) and Derivatives Clearing Organization (DCO), today announced it set a new March total trading volume record with 115,600 contracts being transacted as of close of business today. This month to date total surpasses the previous March record of 115,483 contracts traded set in 2007. With seven trading days left in the month, March 2011 volume is already up more than 25 percent over last March’s total volume.

CFTC Sanctions Hernando Chovil Of McLean, Virginia, For Fraud In Connection With Operating A Commodity Pool

The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) today filed and simultaneously settled charges that Hernando Chovil of McLean, Va., committed fraud in connection with operating a commodity pool. Chovil has never been registered with the CFTC.

International Monetary And Financial Committee Selects Tharman Shanmugaratnam As New Chairman

The members of the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC), the policy advisory committee of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), have selected Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Minister for Finance of Singapore, as Chairman of the Committee. Minister Tharman succeeds Dr. Youssef Boutros-Ghali, Egypt’s former Minister of Finance, who resigned on February 4, 2011.

CFTC Sanctions Bunge Global Markets, Inc. $550,000 For Entering Pre-Market Soybean Futures Orders On Globex That Caused Non-Bona Fide Prices To Be Reported - Bunge’s Orders Distorted Globex’s Indicative Opening Price For Soybean Futures contracts.

The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) today filed and simultaneously settled charges against Bunge Global Markets, Inc. (Bunge) of White Plains, N.Y., for entering orders to purchase or sell soybean futures contracts in pre-opening trading sessions on Globex that Bunge had no intention of having executed. These orders caused prices to be reported that were not true and bona fide. The soybean futures orders also constituted false, misleading or knowingly inaccurate reports concerning soybean market information that affected or tended to affect the price of soybeans, in violation of the Commodity Exchange Act, the order finds.

European Parliament: Green Light For Financial Watchdog Executive Directors

All three candidate executive directors of the EU's new financial watchdogs were given a green light by the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee on Tuesday. The committee's recommendation now needs to be confirmed by Parliament as a whole, in a vote scheduled for Thursday 24 March.
