The Europe Dow, an equal-weighted index that measures 30 of the region’s leading blue-chip stocks, closed 2012’s first quarter with a gain of 7.07% despite dropping 2.11% in March, according to data compiled by Dow Jones Indexes, a leading global index provider.

ICMA Publishes 2012 Legal Opinions On Master Repo Agreement For Over 60 Jurisdictions

The International Capital Market Association (ICMA), the leading trade association for the international capital market, has today published the 2012 legal opinions on the Global Master Repurchase Agreement (GMRA), the standard agreement used for international repo transactions, together with the Guidance Notes and specific annexes to the GMRA 2011. The 2012 opinions support the use of the GMRA in more than 60 jurisdictions.

FINRA Hearing Panel Fines David Lerner Associates $2.3 Million For Selling Municipal Bonds, Cmos To Retail Customers At Unfair Prices, And For Supervisory Violations - Restitution Provided To Customers - Firm's Head Trader Fined And Suspended

The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) announced today that a FINRA hearing panel ruled that Long Island-based David Lerner Associates, Inc. (DLA) charged excessive markups on municipal bond and collateralized mortgage obligation (CMO) transactions over a two-year period, causing the firm's retail customers to pay unfairly high prices and receive lower yields than they otherwise would have received. The panel fined DLA $2.3 million for the markup and related supervisory violations, and ordered the firm to pay restitution of more than $1.4 million, plus interest, to affected customers. The panel also fined its head trader William Mason $200,000 and suspended him for six months from the securities industry. The ruling resolves charges brought by FINRA's Department of Enforcement in May 2010.

CFTC Orders JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A. To Pay A $20 Million Civil Monetary Penalty To Settle CFTC Charges Of Unlawfully Handling Customer Segregated Funds - CFTC Charges Relate To JPMorgan’s Handling Of Lehman Brothers, Inc.’S Customer Segregated Funds

The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) today filed and simultaneously settled charges against JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A. (JPMorgan) for its unlawful handling of Lehman Brothers, Inc.’s (LBI) customer segregated funds. The CFTC order imposes a $20 million civil monetary penalty against JPMorgan. The order also requires JPMorgan to implement undertakings to ensure the proper handling of customer segregated funds in the future and to release customer funds upon notice and instruction from the CFTC.

Dow Jones-UBS Commodity Indexes March 2012 Performance Report

The Dow Jones-UBS Commodity Index was down 4.14% for the month of March. The Dow Jones-UBS Single Commodity Indexes for soybean meal, soybean and cotton had the strongest gains with month-returns of 10.14%, 6.29% and 3.41%, respectively. The three most significant downside performing single commodity indexes were natural gas, orange juice and coffee, which ended the month down 21.55%, 11.44%, and 10.23% respectively.

Thomson Reuters Commits To Elektron Services In Hong Kong Stock Exchange Co-Location Facility - New Co-Location Service Will Provide Even Greater Low Latency Access To The Hong Kong Exchange For Electronic Trading

Thomson Reuters has confirmed plans to launch an Elektron co-location service for the Hong Kong Exchange (HKEx) in order to meet the increasingly strong demand from financial institutions for fast and cost-effective access to this important financial market. Thomson Reuters customers will be able to co-locate their trading applications within the data centre, reducing latency and improving the speed at which they execute trades.
