SIFMA Applauds SEC Approval Of Proposals To Address Extraordinary Market Volatility
SIFMA today released the following statement from Randy Snook, executive vice president, in response to the approval by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of two proposals that seek to address extraordinary volatility in individual stocks and the broader stock markets. These proposals -- for updated market-wide circuit breakers and the establishment of a limit up-limit down mechanism that replaces the existing single stock circuit breakers -- were put forward by the national securities exchanges and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average Closed Down 6.21% In May, According To Dow Jones Indexes - 820.18 Point Drop Is Second Largest For May - Four Of The Dow’s 30 Component Stocks Closed Month In Positive Territory - Wal-Mart Topped All 30 Components With 11.73% Gain
The Dow Jones Industrial Average, the longest running and most widely quoted U.S. stock-market index, fell 6.21% in May, according to data compiled by Dow Jones Indexes, a leading global index provider.

The Options Industry Council Announces May Options Trading Volume Up 5%
The Options Industry Council (OIC) announced today that 377,539,997 total options contracts changed hands in May, up 5.07 percent compared to the 359,310,820 contracts traded the previous May.

BOX Options Exchange Price Improvement Activity For May
In the month of May, price improved contracts on BOX Options Exchange (“BOX”) averaged 269,556 per day. Price improvement versus the prevailing NBBO for contracts submitted via BOX’s price improvement auction (“PIP”) averaged $176,747 per day, while total savings to investors this month were $3.9 MM. With this, BOX has saved investors over $388 MM since its inception in 2004. Overall average daily trading volume on BOX in the month of May was 696,471 contracts, which represented a 62% increase over the same period last year.

MGEX Reports May Volume; Impressive Gains In Options Volume
MGEX, a Designated Contract Market and Derivatives Clearing Organization, today announced May futures and options volume for its flagship Hard Red Spring Wheat (HRSW) contract, including a dramatic increase in options volume. When compared to the previous month, options volume increased by a staggering 228 percent and marked a yearover-year increase of 36 percent. A total of 87,882 futures and options contracts traded on the Exchange in May with futures trades accounting for 85,536 contracts.
