Christopher J. Kirkpatrick was named Secretary of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) today. He will lead CFTC’s Office of the Secretariat. As Secretary, Mr. Kirkpatrick will manage the processes that bring matters to the Commission for consideration and action as it continues to implement the Dodd-Frank Act and proceeds with ongoing enforcement and market oversight activities. He will also play a key role in the preservation and management of the Commission’s records, including industry filings and rulemaking records.

In keeping with its drive to encourage foreign investment in Israel’s capital market, the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) is currently examining the possibility of aligning its trading schedule with accepted practice abroad by adopting a Monday through Friday (rather than Sunday through Thursday) trading week. Trading on Fridays will close at 14:00.

Cairo Amman Bank - Flash Comment: Budget Deficit Widens In The First Half Of The Year Due To Sluggish Foreign Grants

• Jordan’s fiscal deficit widened by 15% in the first half of 2014 compared to the same period of 2013, to reach JD 354 million for the January-June period.
• The JD 45 million increase in the budget deficit was a result of a JD 361 million increase in total expenditure which offset a JD 316 million increase in total revenues and grants.
