Group Of Leading Retail Brokers, Financial Services Firms, Banks, And Global Market Makers Plan To Launch The Only Member-Owned Equities Exchange, MEMX™, Members Exchange - MEMX Aims To Increase Competition, Improve Operational Transparency, And Lower Costs

A group of nine leading retail broker-dealers, banks, financial services firms, and global market makers, have agreed to launch an equities exchange, MEMX, or Members Exchange. The new exchange will be owned entirely by its founding members and will seek to deliver benefits to retail and institutional investors by introducing greater competition to the marketplace. MEMX will file an application with the Securities and Exchange Commission in early 2019 for approval to operate as a national securities exchange.

MIAX Regulatory: Options Regulatory Fee Announcement # 2

This Alert amends and replaces in its entirety the Alert and the Regulatory Circulars dated December 31, 2018 and amends the Options Regulatory Fees (“ORF”) announced on that date which contained a clerical error. MIAX has changed the allocation of the ORF for MIAX Options, MIAX PEARL and MIAX Emerald. The total amount of the ORF, $.00630, for the three MIAX exchanges, has not changed from the December 31, 2018 announcement.

FIA December 2018 SEF Tracker

Total trading volume on SEFs averaged $550 billion in notional value per day during December 2018. That was down 11.6% percent from the previous month but up 19.2% from December 2017. Credit default swap trading averaged $34.3 billion per day in December, almost three times the amount traded in December 2017 and the highest amount traded in any December since FIA began reporting SEF data in 2014. Trading of FX products continued at a high level; FX trading in December reached $49.8 billion in average daily notional value, the lowest amount for the year, but still higher than any month prior to 2018. Trading of interest rate swaps was down 11.2% from November 2018 but up 13.3% from December 2017. IRS trading on dealer-to-customer platforms, excluding forward rate agreements, reached $223.4 billion per day in December, the highest level of the year. In contrast, IRS trading on dealer-to-dealer platforms, excluding forward rate agreements, fell to $137.7 billion per day in December, the second lowest total of the year.
