  • Last Day Of Floor Trading Marks The End Of An Era At HKFE

    The Hong Kong Futures Exchange (HKFE) marked the end of an era today as the closing bell for the Hang Seng Index (HSI) Futures and Options markets signalled the end of floor trading at the HKFE. On Monday, HSI Futures and Options migrate to the HKFE's electronic trading system, HKATS (Hong Kong Futures Automated Trading System). All other HKFE products have been trading on HKATS since September 1997.

  • Eurobond Trading On SWX Now Also In Pound Sterling And Yen

    SWX Swiss Exchange is pleased to announce that, as of 5 June 2000, bond trading based on pound sterling and yen can now be conducted on SWX Eurobonds. Trading will begin on June 5, 2000 in a number of selected bond issues. Subsequently, newly issued pound and yen bonds will be continuously admitted to trading on the SWX platform. A regularly updated list of issues will be published at the SWX Web site www.swx.com.

    The Mercado a Término de Buenos Aires (Buenos Aires Futures Exchange) traded 21,479 contracts in May 2000 compared to a figure of 16,677 contracts in May 1999. Total volume for the first five months of 2000 was 107,511 contracts, compared to 97,257 contracts in 1999.

  • Winnipeg Commodity Exchange Sets Open Interest Records In Western Barley And Canola Futures, And Total Options

    Winnipeg Commodity Exchange (WCE) established a new record open interest in October western barley futures on May 15, 2000 at 9,337 contracts up 24.7%. The previous record for open interest in western barley of 7,489 contracts was set July 27, 1999.

  • VeriSign, Inc. To Join The Nasdaq-100 Index Beginning June 9, 2000

    VeriSign, Inc. (Nasdaq:VRSN), of Mountain View, California, will become a component of the Nasdaq-100 Index®, effective at the beginning of trading Friday, June 9, 2000. Shares of VeriSign will also be included in the Nasdaq-100 Index Tracking StockSM (Amex:QQQ). VeriSign will replace Network Solutions, Inc., (NSOL) subject to approval of the merger agreement by VeriSign and Network Solutions shareholders. The meeting is scheduled for June 8, 2000.

    On May 22, OME Aluminium futures opened lower on long-liquidation as the yen soared up to the 106 yen level against US dollar amid the easier tone in LME Aluminium in line with the fall in its copper market. Distant March contract dropped to 164.5 yen, down 2.2 yen from the last Friday’s close.
