Minneapolis Wheat Options Open Interest Tops 10,000

The Minneapolis Grain Exchange (MGEX) announced today that open interest in hard red spring wheat options topped 10,000 contracts for the first time ever on May 3 and has climbed steadily higher since then. Open interest yesterday, May 9, stood at 10,288 contracts. The previous daily open interest record before this, established October 19, 1999, was 9,481 contracts.
KCBT Wheat Options Volume Surpasses All Previous Single-Day Records

Trading volume in Kansas City Board of Trade wheat options on Wednesday set a new single-day record. Wednesday's official wheat options volume was 4,322 contracts, which broke the previous single-day record of 3,460 contracts set barely a year ago, on May 5, 2000.

April 2001 volume was the highest April ever recorded on the IPE. Total traded volume hit 2,153,641 lots (equivalent to 1.6 billion barrels). This compared to the 1,752,853 lots (almost 1.3 billion barrels) traded in the same period of the previous year. The increase in volume shows a year on year growth rate for April of 22.86%.

CME Surpasses 12 Million In Open Interest

For the third consecutive session, Chicago Mercantile Exchange Inc. (CME) set an open interest record of 12,057,074 positions yesterday, representing nearly $9.3 trillion, more than four times the underlying value of the highest level of open interest ever reached on any other exchange in the world.

Turnover in XTF, Deutsche Börse's market segment for exchange-traded index funds and actively managed funds, rose about 9.5 percent in April, to 2.1 billion euros. Of this total, 93 percent was traded in index funds and 7 percent in actively managed funds. Deutsche Börse's share of the European market in exchange-traded funds increased to roughly 70 percent in April, as compared with 63.6 percent in March 2001. Deutsche Börse is thus continuing to expand its position as Europe's most successf
