CME's GLOBEX® Electronic Trading Volume Breaks 900,000 Contracts As E-mini™ S&P 500 Futures Surpass Half-Million Mark

Trading volume on GLOBEX®, the electronic trading platform of Chicago Mercantile Exchange Inc. (CME), broke the 900,000 mark for the first time yesterday, June 4, rising to a record 943,953 contracts and surpassing the previous record of 827,894 contracts set on May 15.

CBOT ($5) Mini-Sized Dow Sets New Volume Record On June 4

Members at the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) on Tuesday, June 4, 2002, set a new daily volume record in the CBOT®($5) Mini-sized DowSM Jones Index futures contract, trading 10,192 contracts, with open interest reaching an all-time high of 10,984 contracts that same day. The former daily volume record of 8,624 contracts was set on May 30, 2002.

UK Merger Control Authorities Clear Acquisition Of Clearstream - Acceptance Quota Of The Offer Reaches 100 Percent - Closing Of The Transaction Expected In July

On Friday, May 31, the Office of Fair Trading, the UK merger control authority, cleared the acquisition of Clearstream International by Deutsche Börse. Together with the approval from the German merger control authorities (Bundeskartellamt) and the Luxembourg regulator (Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier) which approved the transaction in mid April - as reported - Deutsche Börse has now obtained all regulatory clearances required for the acquisition.

On May 31st, 2002, Nasdaq Japan announced Tatsuyuki Saeki will retire as Chairman and CEO of Nasdaq Japan, and take up a new role as Special Advisor to The Nasdaq Stock Market. Saeki will advise Nasdaq on issues relating to international business development for the Japan market.

Supreme Court Backs SEC's Interpretation Of Securities Fraud

The U.S. Supreme Court yesterday ruled unanimously in favor of the Securities and Exchange Commission's longstanding interpretation of federal securities law, saying that the Commission properly alleged securities fraud in its complaint against a broker who emptied a client's investment account and used the proceeds for his own benefit.

Standard & Poor's will make the following changes in the S&P Europe 350, and S&P Euro Plus Indices, effective after the close of trading Thursday, June 6, 2002: Electrolux AB 'B' (Sweden, SEDOL 5466782, GICS:Consumer Discretionary, GICS Code: 25201040), a member of the S&P Europe 350, and S&P Euro Plus Indices, shares will decrease by 27,473,586 shares to 328,712,580 shares. The change follows Electrolux AB's cancellation of repurchased shares.
