Standard & Poor's Canadian Index Operations announces the following index change effective after the close of business on Tuesday, June 10, 2003: The relative weight of MDS Inc. (TSX:MDS) will increase by approximately 5.29% in the S&P/TSX Capped Health Care Index. The relative weight change reflects an adjustment to the float shares pursuant to S&P/TSX Capped Sector Index methodology.

New York Stock Exchange member firms that conduct business with the public reported first-quarter 2003 after-tax profits of $2.28 billion and revenues of $35.07 billion, a 16.8 percent increase and 9.0 percent decline, respectively, compared to $1.95 billion in after-tax profits on revenues of $38.55 billion in first-quarter 2002.

The number of trades on SETS™, the London Stock Exchange's electronic order book, increased to 2.53 million in May 2003, 47 per cent higher than the 1.72 million trades in May 2002. The value traded on SETS decreased by six per cent to £55.5 billion in May 2003, down from £59.2 billion in May 2002. There were 20 business days in May 2003 compared with 22 in May 2002.
