  • Corporate Governance: European Commission Consults On Shareholders’ Rights

    The European Commission has launched a public consultation on facilitating the exercise of basic shareholders’ rights in company general meetings and solving problems in the cross-border exercise of such rights, particularly voting rights. Responses will be taken into account in a forthcoming proposal for a Directive – part of the Commission Action Plan on Corporate Governance. The deadline for responses is 16 December 2004.

  • CBOT Mini-Sized Dow Options Contract Sets New Volume Record

    The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT®) announced today that volume in the CBOT mini-sized DowSM options contract, which trades exclusively on the exchange's premier electronic trading platform, jumped to a new record high. mini-sized Dow options volume rose to 10,772 contracts on Wednesday, September 15, surpassing the previous record of 4,233 contracts set on September 7. In addition, open interest in mini-sized Dow options continues its strong performance, setting its fifth consecutive record.

  • CBOT Hosts Winnepeg Commodity Exchange On Trading Platform

    The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT®) announced today that it has signed an agreement to host the agricultural futures and options products of the Winnipeg Commodity Exchange Inc. (WCE) on its electronic trading platform, e-cbot® powered by LIFFE CONNECT®. The agreement follows a Memorandum of Understanding that the WCE and CBOT signed in April. In addition to the WCE, the CBOT signed hosting agreements with the Kansas City Board of Trade (KCBT) and the Minneapolis Grain Exchange (MGEX) in August

    In advance of next week's Federal Open Market Committee meeting on September 21, the Chicago Board of Trade will be reporting daily rate change probabilities in the FOMC's federal funds target rate, as indicated by the CBOT® 30-Day Federal Funds futures contract. The CBOT 30-Day Federal Funds futures contract is a key benchmark interest rate barometer that reflects the forward overnight effective rate for excess reserves that are traded among commercial banks in the U.S. federal funds market.

    Yesterday, Judge Denise Cote of the Southern District of New York issued an order granting Archipelago's motion to dismiss the Nasdaq Stock Market, Inc.'s common-law claims and ruled that ArcaEx has the right to facilitate trading of the Nasdaq-100 Tracking stock, QQQ; and, that Nasdaq had no rights in the QQQ that would permit Nasdaq to restrict trading by ArcaEx through imposing a licensing regime.
