  • LME Announces Its Decision On Steel Futures

    The LME has today confirmed that it will commence the process of developing price risk management tools for the steel industry. The Exchange will now seek tenders from reference price compilers to work with the LME to create and publish LME steel reference prices for six benchmarks in a number of defined steel products. If, after a year, these prices have gained credibility within the steel industry and the LME membership, the Exchange will take a decision on launching steel futures contracts.

    CBOT Holdings, Inc., holding company for the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT®), announced today that revenue in the third quarter of 2005 rose 20 percent from revenue in the same period during 2004, with increased trading volume and a higher average rate per contract contributing to these results. Net income in the third quarter climbed 63 percent to $19.8 million, compared with $12.2 million in the third quarter of 2004.

    In advance of next week's Federal Open Market Committee meeting on November 1, the Chicago Board of Trade will be reporting daily rate change probabilities in the FOMC's federal funds target rate, as indicated by the CBOT 30-Day Federal Funds futures contract. The CBOT 30-Day Federal Funds futures contract is a key benchmark interest rate barometer that reflects the forward overnight effective rate for excess reserves that are traded among commercial banks in the U.S. federal funds market.
