Oslo Børs: Interim Reporting By Listed Companies Shows Improvement

Listed companies have shown a clear improvement in following the accounting standard for interim reporting. This is the conclusion of a survey of interim reports for the fourth quarter of 2003 carried out by Oslo Børs. However too many companies are still publishing reports that do not fully meet the standard, and Oslo Børs will continue its work in this area through direct follow up of these companies.

New Tax Treaty: Japan And USA

Japan and the USA have recently ratified a new tax treaty, which comes into effect from 1st July 2004. This replaces the treaty which has been effective since 1971, and concludes talks that commenced in October 2001.

Nasdaq Successfully Completes Market-Wide Disaster Recovery Tests

The Nasdaq Stock Market, Inc. (“NASDAQ”; OTCBB: NDAQ), today announced the completion of two market-wide disaster recovery tests, as part of NASDAQ's ongoing efforts to ensure business continuity. Approximately 50 market participants took part in this initiative, which provided NASDAQ customers a means to assess their disaster recovery and backup facilities capabilities. Following its previous successes with equity index Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), Lyxor Asset Management, a wholly owned subsidiary of Société Générale, now extends the range of products available to Italian investors with the launch of the first ETF listed and quoted in Italy that will track the eurozone government bond market: the EuroMTS Global Master Unit.

For the week of April 19th – April 23rd, 2004, total trading volume on FORTS (Futures & Options on the RTS) increased by 12% in rubles and 17% in contracts and reached 1 019 thousand contracts and 8 549 million rubles. Total open interest as of April 23rd, 2004 reached 6 929 million rubles and 856 thousand contracts.

Chicago Stock Exchange Elects A New Chairman And New Governors

The Chicago Stock Exchange (CHX) announced today the election of eight Governors, and a new Chairman, to fill vacancies on its 24-person Board of Governors. Valerie B. Jarrett, Executive Vice President and Managing Director of The Habitat Company, was elected as Chairman of the Chicago Stock Exchange. Outgoing Chairman Lee M. Mitchell, Partner, Thoma Cressey Equity Partners, will remain on the Board of Governors. Ms. Jarrett's term as Chairman runs through April, 2006.
