Eurex Trades Over 118 Million Contracts In January, Up 24 Percent On 2005 - Strong Growth In Fixed Income And Equity dDerivatives

The international derivatives exchange Eurex reported on Tuesday that it traded a total of 118 million contracts in January, up 24 percent on January 2005 and up 37 percent on the previous trading month. CME, the world's largest and most diverse financial exchange, today said average daily volume in January was 4.7 million contracts, up 27 percent from the same period a year ago. Total monthly volume was more than 94 million contracts. Average daily volume on the CME Globex electronic trading platform increased 30 percent from the same period a year ago to 3.3 million contracts per day, representing 71 percent of total exchange trading. The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT®) today announced that January’s average daily volume (ADV) for the Exchange is off to a strong start in 2006, outpacing January 2005 by 22 percent and climbing to 2,757,081 contracts. The CBOT also reported strong ADV growth in electronic volume. The Exchange’s electronic ADV grew 34 percent over January 2005 to 1,933,642 contracts. The CBOT’s electronic volume represented 70 percent of total Exchange volume for January.
