On December 18, 2007, the Study Group on Payment and Settlements (Chairman: Prof. Shinsaku Iwahara, University of Tokyo Graduate Schools for Law and Politics), established by the FSA's Financial Research and Training Center (FRTC; Director: Prof. Naoyuki Yoshino, Keio University), published "Interim Summary of Points of Discussion on Payment and Settlement (Chairman's Notes)", after twelve meetings since July 2007.

At the end of the settlement date of May 30, 2008, short interest in 2,643 NASDAQ Global Market(sm) securities totaled 9,687,044,281 shares compared with 9,500,539,527 shares in 2,641 Global Market issues reported for the prior settlement date of May 15, 2008. The end-of-May short interest represents 4.94 days average daily NASDAQ Global Market share volume for the reporting period, compared with 4.53 days for the prior reporting period.
