UK Government Publishes Financial Services Bill

The Government has today published legislation which will fundamentally transform and strengthen financial regulation in the United Kingdom, Financial Secretary to the Treasury, Mark Hoban, has announced.  The new regime sets out a clear, coherent and comprehensive regulatory framework, replacing the uncertainty and inadequacy of the previous structure, and helping to mitigate against future risks to stability.

On growth and smart fiscal consolidation:

"Growth is and has always been at the centre of the Commission's comprehensive response to the crisis. That is precisely what the structural reform agenda is about. But since structural reforms can take time to make their benefits felt, we have also put forward many ideas to stimulate growth in the short term, for instance by using EU funding more effectively to ease the credit squeeze on small businesses. I will propose to Member States to redeploy structural funds to boost growth and job creation even further."

The First NYSE Euronext Lisbon Awards: Portuguese Stock Exchange Awards Capital Market Performance For 2011

For the first time, NYSE Euronext has awarded 16 organisations that excelled in the capital markets in 2011. The awards are aimed at raising the visibility of those companies operating in the stock market throughout last year. These include issuers, brokers, investment banks, analysts, fund managers, law firms, academics, who all actively contributed to the development of the Portuguese capital market. The creation of the NYSE Euronext Lisbon Awards is another step in the development of the market and ultimately to Portugal’s economic growth by the Portuguese Exchange.
