SGX Derivatives And Commodities Trading Grows

Singapore Exchange (SGX) today said derivatives and commodities trading grew in July from a
year earlier. Securities turnover was lower year-on-year though it was up from June.

The Dow Jones-UBS Commodity Index was up 6.46% for the month of July.The Dow Jones-UBS Single Commodity Indexes for corn, soybean meal and wheat had the strongest gains with month-end returns of 28.32%, 19.80% and 17.30%, respectively. The three most significant downside performing single commodity indexes were feeder cattle, orange juice and nickel, which ended the month down 9.82%,9.73%, and 5.33% respectively.

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has issued its second response to feedback received on the proposals in the Consultation paper on the regulation of over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives published on 13 February 2012, as well as the consultation paper on draft amendments to the Securities and Futures Act (SFA) to effect these proposals.

Exegy, Inc., the market data systems company, announced today that the MarketDataPeaks.eu website hit a new record peak of 321,000 messages per second. The Exegy Ticker Plants in the colocation facilities in Europe that drive the MarketDataPeaks.eu website hit this processing peak at 1:35 BST (British Summer Time) on Thursday, 2 August. This compares to 314,000 messages per second on 13 April when the market was reacting to worsening economic conditions in Spain.

Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) today announced that staff will hold a public roundtable on Thursday, August 9, 2012, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., to discuss customer protection requirements for futures commission merchants (FCMs). The objective of the roundtable is to gather public input on a variety of ideas to further protect customers.
