Singapore Is Largest FX Centre In Asia And Third Largest Globally

According to the latest survey by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), average daily foreign exchange (FX) turnover volume in Singapore grew 44% to US$383 billion in April 2013 compared with US$266 billion in April 2010. Global turnover growth in the same period was 35%. The survey ranks Singapore as the third largest FX centre globally after London and New York and the largest FX centre in Asia.

Professor Douglas W. Diamond Appointed As MAS Term Professor At NUS Business School - Pioneering Researcher In Financial Crises, Financial Intermediaries And Liquidity - To Hold Public Lecture On Short-Term Debt And Financial Regulation

Professor Douglas W. Diamond, the Merton H. Miller Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, will be appointed as the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) Term Professor in Economics and Finance1 from 6 to 20 September 2013. He will be hosted by the National University of Singapore (NUS) Business School, where he will advise faculty members and students on their research, work on joint research papers with faculty members, and speak at seminars and research workshops.

The Eastern Magistrates’ Court today convicted Premium Stars Investments Limited (Premium Stars) after it pleaded guilty to one count of illegal short selling in the shares of China Properties Investments Holdings Limited (China Properties).

NYSE Euronext Announces Trading Volumes For August 2013 - Global Derivatives ADV Up Year-Over-Year But Down Sequentially, Ex Bclear - European Cash Equities ADV Up Year-Over-Year But Down Sequentially - U.S. Cash Equities ADV Down Year-Over-Year And Sequentially

NYSE Euronext (NYX) today announced trading volumes for its global derivatives and cash equities exchanges for August 2013. Global derivatives average daily volume (“ADV”) of 5.8 million contracts, excluding Bclear, in August 2013 increased 8.6% compared to August 2012, but decreased 8.9% from July 2013. U.S. equity options volumes increased 8.4% compared to August 2012, but decreased 6.0% sequentially. ADV in European cash equities increased 17.9% compared to August 2012, but decreased 7.8% compared to July 2013. U.S. cash equities decreased year-over-year and month-over-month.

Taiwan Stock Exchange Promotes Listings To Japanese Companies

With the aim of further expanding the scale of the Taiwan capital market and strengthening its international profile, Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE)’s Senior Executive Vice President Mr. Lih-chung Chien will lead a delegation alongside the Taipei City government to Japan in early September. The delegation will aim to encourage more Japanese companies to list in Taiwan. TWSE has been proactively targeting the Japanese market since 2008, organizing more than five overseas trips, resulting in a number of Japanese companies planning a Taiwan listing. There are currently three Japanese companies who are applying for a listing on TWSE.

The value of ASX-listed stocks, as measured by the All Ordinaries Index, rose 1.8% in August 2013. This performance was in contrast to those observed in other major markets, including Hong Kong down 0.7%, Japan down 2.0%, Germany down 2.1%, the UK down 3.1%, the US down 3.1%, and Singapore down 6.0%.
