Nigerian Stock Exchange Weekly Report For The Week Ended 28 March 2014
A turnover of 1.870 billion shares worth N26.811 billion in 21,632 deals were traded this week by investors on the floor of The Exchange in contrast to a total of 1.391 billion shares valued at N19.414 billion that exchanged hands last week in 22,527 deals.

UK Financial Conduct Authority Statement On Supervisory Work On The Fair Treatment Of Long Standing Customers In Life Insurance
The FCA Board acknowledges the concerns of the market regarding today’s press coverage of the FCA’s proposed supervisory work on the fair treatment of long standing customers in life insurance. The FCA put out a statement of clarification this afternoon. The Board will conduct an investigation into the FCA’s handling of the issue involving an external law firm, and will share the outcome of this work in due course.

Security Traders Association Of New York Hosting A Panel Of Bitcoin Luminaries At Its Annual Conference - Now Accepting The Digital Currency As Payment For The Event
The Security Traders Association of New York (“STANY”) today announced that it will accept payment in Bitcoin for tickets to its Annual Conference and Dinner. Sweetening the deal is Atlas ATS, the New-York-based cryptocurrency exchange, which has agreed to match the amount of Bitcoin-purchased tickets, up to $1,000. The actual Bitcoin transactions will be handled by GoCoin, the leading international payment platform for Bitcoin and Litecoin.

Renminbi Clearing In Frankfurt
To mark Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Berlin, the Deutsche Bundesbank and the People's Bank of China (PBoC) have signed a memorandum of understanding regarding the clearing and settlement of payments denominated in the Chinese renminbi in Frankfurt. Both central banks have agreed to intensify their cooperation in clearing and settlement arrangements of renminbi payments. They also laid the groundwork for establishing a clearing bank.

Thomson Reuters/University Of Michigan: Confidence Survives Harsh Winter
Consumer confidence has remained largely unchanged in the past three months despite the hard winter as well as a severe drought. The current state of consumer finances were just as strong in March as in December, and more importantly, consumers viewed their financial prospects for the year ahead much more favorably in March than at the start of the winter season. The gains in personal finances were offset by rising concerns about the outlook for the overall economy. While consumers still anticipate that the national economy will continue to grow during the year ahead, they have become increasingly concerned about the ability of the economy to avoid a downturn sometime in the next five years. Of more immediate concern, consumers have voiced their dismay about the slowdown in home value gains , a slowdown that was expected to continue in the year ahead.

EBA Publishes Final Draft Technical Standards On Liquidity Requirements
The European Banking Authority (EBA) published today its final draft Implementing and Regulatory Technical Standards (ITS and RTS) related to liquidity requirements. The package includes: (i) final draft ITS on currencies for which the justified demand for liquid assets exceeds their availability; (ii) final draft RTS on derogations for eligible currencies; and (iii) final draft ITS listing the currencies with an extremely narrow definition of central bank eligibility. These final draft Technical Standards will be part of the Single Rulebook aimed at enhancing regulatory harmonisation in the banking sector in the European Union (EU) and namely at strengthening its resilience against liquidity risk.
