  • EBRD And Jordan Sign Memorandum Of Understanding For 2018 Annual Meeting

    Jordan’s Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Imad Fakhoury, and EBRD Secretary General, Enzo Quattrociocche, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the organisation of the Bank's 27th Annual Meeting and Business Forum, which will be held from 8 to 10 May 2018 at the Dead Sea.

    • Market capitalisation was $37.7 trillion on 26 January 2018 which reached a record high.
    • The Hang Seng Index on 26 January 2018 was 33154.12 which reached a record high.
    • The average daily turnover in January 2018 was $160.9 billion, an increase of 181 per cent when compared with $57.2 billion for the same period last year.
    • The average daily turnover of derivative warrants in January 2018 was $28.5 billion, an increase of 171 per cent when compared with $10.5 billion for the same period last year.
    • The average daily turnover of CBBCs in January 2018 was $10.4 billion, an increase of 167 per cent when compared with $3.9 billion for the same period last year.
    • The average daily turnover of ETFs in January 2018 was $6.5 billion, an increase of 117 per cent when compared with $3.0 billion for the same period last year.
    • Funds raised through IPOs in January 2018 was $13.7 billion, an increase of 111 per cent when compared with $6.5 billion for the same period last year.

    The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) will work together to facilitate the establishment of a stock market trading link between Bursa Malaysia (BM) and Singapore Exchange (SGX) by the end of this year. The trading link will allow investors to trade and settle shares listed on each other’s stock market in a more convenient and cost efficient manner. Retail investors notably will benefit from such a link.

    Trading – Cash Markets (including equities, interest rate and warrant trades)

    • In January 2018, the average daily number of trades was 14% higher than the pcp. The average daily value traded on-market of $3.6 billion was down 1% on the pcp. 
    • Volatility (as measured by the average daily movement in the All Ordinaries Index) was 0.3% in January in line with the previous month (0.3%). 
    • Expected future volatility (as measured by the S&P/ASX 200 VIX) in January was an average of 11.1 (compared to 11.0 in December).
