Antitrust: European Commission Fines Investment Banks € 371 Million For Participating In A European Governments Bonds Trading Cartel

The European Commission has found that Bank of America, Natixis, Nomura, RBS (now NatWest), UBS, UniCredit and WestLB (now Portigon) have breached EU antitrust rules through the participation of a group of traders in a cartel in the primary and secondary market for European Government Bonds (‘EGB').

EGX Welcomes Integrated Diagnostics Holding Company To Its Main Platform

The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) welcomed the new listing of Integrated Diagnostics Holding Company (IDH), listed in London Stock Exchange under the code IDHC. A ringing of bell ceremony in celebration of the new listing was held at EGX’s trading floor today in the presence of leaders from EGX & IDH announcing the beginning of trading of 600 million shares of IDH in the Egyptian market in EGP.

U.S. Digital Investment Management Market Monitor, 2020 In Review - U.S. Direct-To-Consumer Digital Investment AUM Grew 31% In 2020, Reaching A Total Of US$460 Billion And Exceeding 2019’s Growth Of 16%.

The growth in digital investment assets in 2020 was fueled partly by strong stock market growth; the S&P 500 grew 16% in 2020. But there were many other factors at play that doubled the asset growth on digital investment platforms. Investors are more comfortable using digital-only channels to manage their investments, and many new and existing investors entered the stock market after the crash of March 2020.

ESMA Proposes Lowering The Reporting Threshold For Net Short Positions To 0.1% On A Permanent Basis

The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), the EU’s securities markets regulator, recommends to the European Commission (EC) to permanently lower the threshold to notify net short positions on shares to national competent authorities (NCAs) from 0.2% to 0.1%.

In First 11 Days, U.S. Department Of The Treasury Distributes $105.3 Billion Through Coronavirus State And Local Fiscal Recovery Funds In The 11 Days Since Launching A $350 Billion Relief Program For States, Cities, Tribes And Territories, Treasury Approved More Than 1,500 Recipients And Disbursed Approximately 30% Of Total Resources

Today, the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced that it has distributed $105.3 billion to more than 1,500 recipients through the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds, established by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. This $105.3 billion distribution is part of the $350 billion allocated in emergency funding for state, local, territorial, and Tribal governments. Only 11 days since announcing the $350 billion allocation and guidelines on ways the funds can be used to respond to acute pandemic-response needs, fill revenue shortfalls among state and local governments, and support the communities and populations hardest-hit by the COVID-19 crisis, the Department already distributed approximately 30% of the total allocation – and nearly half of the funds available for immediate disbursement – by close of business on Wednesday, May 19. Treasury is committed to ensuring these resources are disbursed as quickly as possible to eligible state, territorial, metropolitan city, county, and Tribal governments to assist communities as they recover from the pandemic.

Hong Kong Securities And Futures Commission Steps Up Efforts To Combat IPO-Related Misconduct

The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), in collaboration with the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited (SEHK), is intensifying its efforts to tackle misconduct and improper behaviour related to new listings. An SFC-SEHK joint statement released today notes some problematic issues in recent initial public offerings (IPOs) which suggest the lack of genuine investor interest and call into doubt the existence of an open, orderly and fair market in the shares.
