Philadelphia Stock Exchange Equities And Options Post Record Volume

The Philadelphia Stock Exchange (PHLX) announced today that its equity option volume for the month of August reached a record 5,923,531 contracts traded. This represents a 61% increase over the same month last year when 3,680,056 contracts changed hands and a 9% increase over the previous record volume month set in March, 2000 when 5,450,551 contracts changed hands. OM Technology delivers its SAXESS system to the Iceland Stock Exchange As part of the Iceland Stock Exchange’s participation in the Norex Alliance, the Exchange has signed an agreement with OM Technology for delivery of the SAXESS system for stock and bond trading. Delivery will be completed in the beginning of October and trading will start with the system on October 23.
NYMEX To Increase Margins On Crude, Heating Oil, Gasoline.

The New York Mercantile Exchange will raise the margins on its crude, heating oil and unleaded gasoline futures contracts as of the close of business on September 12. Margins on each of the three contracts will be increased for clearing members to $3,000 from $2,500; for members, to $3,300 from $2,750; and, for customers, to $4,050 from $3,375.

The decision taken by LSE to end talks leading to a merger between Deutsche Börse and the London Stock Exchange was received with regret by Deutsche Börse on Tuesday. Deutsche Börse emphasized that a merger would have marked an important step in the consolidation of European capital markets and would have enhanced shareholder value of both organizations. Issuers, investors, intermediaries and the two financial centers Frankfurt and London would have benefited from the market consolidation.

New values of indices calculated by Iceland Statistical Bureau become effective 01.Oct.2000. CPI for month of October is 199,5 (now 199,1) and CTI for month of October is 3939 (now 3931). Intra-month daily adjustment used by Iceland Stock Exchange will be 2,438% p.a. for the CPI and 2,47% p.a. for the CTI until the end of the month.
