American Stock Exchange Reports Decrease In Short Interest

The American Stock Exchange (Amex) member and non-member organizations today reported short interest of 965,237,640 shares as of the July 14, 2006 settlement date, a decrease of 22,524,487 from the 987,762,127 (adjusted) shares reported in mid-June. The July figure represents trades through July 11, 2006.

SGX CEO Promotes Development Of ASEAN Clearing And Depository Utility

The CEO of Singapore Exchange, Mr Hsieh Fu Hua, spoke at the Citibank ASEAN Conference today, encouraged integration of the ASEAN capital markets as a response to global competition. He promoted the idea of a “regional clearing and depository utility” owned by the ASEAN exchanges, which he felt would lead to growth in securities trading within ASEAN.

SEC: Distributions Begin To Victims Of Improper Trading At NYSE Specialist Firms

The Securities and Exchange Commission announced that starting today the fund administrator will begin making distributions to compensate customers who were injured by the unlawful proprietary trading conducted by seven New York Stock Exchange specialist firms. The distribution funds include approximately $247 million in disgorgement and civil monetary penalties paid by the firms to settle charges of unlawful proprietary trading brought by the SEC. The SWX Swiss Exchange has issued a reprimand with publication against Affichage Holding, Geneva, for violation of provisions of the Listing Rules. The SWX's reprimand is related to missing information regarding clauses on changes of control in the context of the Corporate Governance Directive, to the clarity and importance of the information, to the principle of «comply or explain» and to the breach of the duty to provide information and cooperate within the framework of the proceedings.
