CME, the world's largest and most diverse derivatives exchange, today announced January volume averaged 5.5 million contracts per day, up 16 percent from January 2006. Total monthly volume was 116 million contracts. Volume on the CME Globex electronic trading platform increased 19 percent from January 2006 to average 4.0 million contracts per day, representing 72 percent of total exchange volume. CFTC Issues New Governance Guidelines For Futures Exchanges - Focus On The Dual Roles Of Exchanges As For-Profit Businesses And Industry Watchdogs

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) moved today to strengthen futures exchange governance by calling for increased public representation at key levels of decision making, including boards of directors. The initiative will enable exchanges to better manage and minimize conflicts arising from changing ownership structures, increased sources of competition, and the inherent tension between their regulatory and commercial functions.

ISE Reports Monthly Volume For January 2007 - Record Average Daily Volume Of 2.8 Million Contracts

The International Securities Exchange (NYSE:ISE) today reported that average daily trading volume for equity and index options contracts for January 2007 increased 3.6% to 2.8 million contracts as compared to 2.7 million contracts during the same period in 2006. Total equity and index options volume for the month increased 3.6% to 55.8 million contracts from 53.8 million contracts in the same year-ago period.

All-Time High At OMX Nordic Exchange

A new all-time high in share trading value was recorded at OMX Nordic Exchange in January. On January 25, the share trading value was DKK 62.6 billion (previous record: DKK 59.4 billion on April 21, 2006). The strong start to the year resulted in a new record in number of trades for the month, with an average of 165,819 per business day (previous record: 161,711 trades per day, May, 2006).
