OMX: September - Record In Fixed-income Derivatives

A new all-time high in Fixed-income derivatives trading was set in September. The average daily trading volume was 136,948 contracts. (previous record: 123,701 contracts per day in June, 2007). The value of average daily share trading increased by 25% compared to the same month last year and the average number of trades per day increased by 60%. In September equity turnover on SIBE came in at € 107.98 bn, 5.7% up on the year. MEFF traded 6,933,233 contracts in September, 29% on the same month last year. Highlights include Mini IBEX Futures, at 243,251 contracts and stock options, at 1,270,688 contracts, posting year on year increases of 108% and 49% respectively. The trading volume on AIAF in September came in at € 82.36 bn, a 27.3% increase on the same period last year.

FTSE/JSE Awards Licences For FTSE/JSE RAFI 40, A New Fundamental Weighted Index

Global index provider, FTSE Group (FTSE), and the JSE, Africa’s premier exchange, today launched a new fundamentally weighted index, entitled FTSE/JSE RAFI 40, which will extend the FTSE/JSE Africa index range and create new investment opportunities. UK's Financial Services Authority: Compensation Scheme To Cover 100% Of Depositors' Claims Up To £35,000

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) has increased the limit of Financial Service Compensation Scheme (FSCS) cover for deposits to 100% of the first £35,000 of each depositor's claim. This increase applies from 1 October 2007.
