E*Trade Units Fined $1 Million For Inadequate Anti-Money Laundering Program - Firms Failed To Adequately Monitor For Suspicious Trading Activity

The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) announced today that it has imposed a $1 million fine against E*Trade Securities, LLC and E*Trade Clearing, LLC, collectively, for failing to establish and implement anti-money laundering (AML) policies and procedures that could reasonably be expected to detect and cause the reporting of suspicious securities transactions.

US Treasury Releases Emergency Economic Stabilization Report

Treasury today released the attached report, required by section 102 of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act. As required by section 102(a), Treasury established the Asset Guarantee Program to provide guarantees for assets held by systemically significant financial institutions that face a high risk of losing market confidence due in large part to a portfolio of distressed or illiquid assets.

NASDAQ OMX Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:NDAQ) today announced the introduction of the OMXI6 Index, a new index on NASDAQ OMX Iceland, which will replace the OMXI15. The new Index consists of the six most traded and liquid companies listed on NASDAQ OMX Iceland. The purpose of the index is to reflect the Icelandic investment opportunities and function as a desired investment tool for fund managers and other investors.

Standard & Poor's Canadian Index Operations announces the following index changes: The unitholders of CI Financial Income Fund (TSX:CIX.UN) have approved the conversion of the company to a corporate structure. The units will be exchanged on a 1-for-1 basis for CI Financial Corp.(TSX:CIX). As a result of the conversion, CI Financial Income Fund will be removed from the S&P/TSX Income Trust Index. The number of trades increased by 7% in 2008 In December trading in equities on the Spanish stock market reached €60.97 bn. ETF trading in 2008 came in at €.93 bn, up 48.8% from a year earlier. MEFF trading hit a yearly record high, at 83.4 million Options and Futures contracts, up 61% from the year 2007.
