The value of ASX-listed stocks, as measured by the All Ordinaries Index, rose 1.2% in February to recover some of the decline experienced in January (-5.9%). Most other major global market indices also advanced in February: the UK was up 3.2%; the US 2.9%; Hong Kong 2.4%; and Singapore 0.2%. There were small declines in Japan (-0.7%) and Germany (-0.2%).

The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) today announced that it obtained a preliminary injunction against defendants Jay C. Nolan of Wilmette, Ill. and his company, Lodge Capital Group, LLC, based in Northfield, Ill. I look forward to a vibrant discussion about some of the most important elements of financial regulatory reform. The 2008 financial crisis left us with many lessons and many challenges to tackle.
