EDHEC-Risk Institute Research Sees Social Infrastructure As Too Small And Risky To Be Attractive To Pension Funds

In a new study entitled “Pension Fund Investment in Social Infrastructure: Insights from the 2012 reform of the private finance initiative in the United Kingdom,” EDHEC-Risk Institute has identified two fundamental issues that make social infrastructure potentially unattractive to pension funds: in-built political risk and limited asset pool size. Social infrastructure investments deliver public assets and services, such as schools and hospital buildings, in exchange for a revenue stream paid directly by the public sector. It is typically opposed to economic infrastructure, which collects revenues from end users and can include toll roads, airports or power generation.

US buy-side firms are increasing their use of electronic trading tools for futures trading as their volumes continue to grow and they look for more efficient execution processes. Buy-side traders are embracing DMA and algorithmic-trading channels with volume routed through these channels accounting for the vast majority of trading, according to TABB Group in an annual benchmark research study, “US Futures Trading 2012: Buy-Side Demands in an Evolving Marketplace.”

Dürr AG To Be Included In MDAX - Deutsche Börse Reviews Index Composition - Changes Are Effective On 19 March 2012

On Monday Deutsche Börse decided on changes in its selection indices MDAX^®, SDAX^® and TecDAX^®. The share of Dürr AG will be included in MDAX and will replace the share of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG. The exclusion of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen was based on the regular exit rule; the share no longer fulfills the market capitalization requirements to remain in the MDAX index. The share of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG will replace the share of Dürr in SDAX.

ntroduction

Good afternoon. It is such a pleasure to be here again with you all today and a special thanks to Sally Miller for the invitation to discuss my perspective on the role of the CFTC in the oversight and regulation of swap markets. Much of what the Commission has focused on over the last year has been directly related to implementing the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. It has been a very complex process involving a great deal of coordination with other US and foreign regulators. The further along we get in the implementation process, the more difficult it is has become. I would like to touch on a few developments and give my thoughts on the current state of derivatives regulation both here in the US and abroad. Since September of 2010, the Commission has held 24 public meetings to vote on various Dodd-Frank matters and has issued nearly 60 proposed rules, notices, or other requests seeking public comment, and has completed 28 final rules, interim final rules, and exemptions. I think we are about at the half-way mark with at least twenty more rules to go, including the most significant rules like definitions of a swap dealer and swap. We have one meeting scheduled for March and four more meetings scheduled for April and May.
