Toronto Stock Exchange And TSX Venture Exchange To Hold Market Open Ceremony In Calgary

TMX Group today announced that Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange will hold a special market open ceremony at Fort Calgary on Friday, July 5, 2013 to kick off the Calgary Stampede parade.

S&P GSCI Market Attributes - Commodities Have Their "Longest Day" In June

KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- The 24 commodities in the S&P GSCI crashed following the Fed’s June 20th announcement that the U.S. central bank may pull back on its bond buying program.
- The S&P GSCI Energy took back its position as the best performing sector indexYTD, gaining 2.4% this month and cutting its YTD loss in half to -2.4%.
- The S&P GSCI Cotton was up 9.9% in the first half of 2013, crowning it as the best performing single commodity index in the S&P GSCI during that time.
- The biggest loser in the S&P GSCI Energy was natural gas, as it lost 11.0% inJune.
- The title for worst-performing sector for the month went to S&P GSCI Precious Metals due to its 12.2% loss in June.

"With today's vote, the European Parliament has sent a clear message: Europe needs an effective ETS and a genuinely European climate policy. I of course welcome this positive vote which also shows that the European Parliament shares the Commission's view: we must have a well-functioning European carbon market to boost innovative low-carbon technologies in Europe. The next step is now for the Council to take a decision. The sooner, the better, so that we can move on to the structural reform of the ETS as soon as possible."

European Parliament Backs Planned Temporary Boost To CO2 Permit Price

Plans to freeze the auctioning of some CO2 permits to encourage firms to invest in low-carbon innovation was backed by Parliament on Wednesday, after it narrowly rejected them in April. This time MEPs set stricter conditions for a freeze. The measure aims to restore the incentive effect of the Emissions Trading System, which is designed to cut greenhouse gas emissions and tackle climate change.
