  • SEC Completes Muni-Underwriter Enforcement Sweep

    The Securities and Exchange Commission today announced enforcement actions against 14 municipal underwriting firms for violations in municipal bond offerings.  The actions conclude charges against underwriters under the Municipalities Continuing Disclosure Cooperation (MCDC) Initiative.  In all, 72 underwriters have been charged under the voluntary self-reporting program targeting material misstatements and omissions in municipal bond offering documents.

    Chris Cummings, Chief Executive, TheCityUK, said, “Donald Tusk’s proposals for a new settlement for the UK within the EU is a key milestone in the reform negotiations to date. While there is still a long way to go, this provides a good basis for the Council of Ministers meeting in two weeks’ time.  I am pleased to see that at the heart of proposals is a clear recognition of the need for the EU to be more competitive. It’s encouraging to see that the Prime Minister’s major calls around competitiveness have been recognised with an urging for the Commission to reduce regulatory burden, fully exploit the potential of the Single Market and advance trade negotiations with the US, Japan and other key partners. As have his proposals around fairness and protecting the interests of non-Eurozone Member States. Recognition that the EU is a union of more than one currency and securing meaningful clarification on ‘ever closer union’ was also a key proposal and one that is fundamental to the UK’s continued successful membership of the EU.

  • JSE Offers Protection Against Price Risk For Participants Exposed To Beef Carcass Prices With A Beef Derivatives Contract

    Trading activity on the beef carcass futures contract has been positive since the product was launched on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange in December 2015, with the number of contracts traded totaling 104. The contract aims to offer investors a product that protects beef farmers and sellers against volatile prices of the commodity.

    Good morning and thank you all for being here.  As reflected in today’s agenda, you are continuing to consider a range of the most important and complex market structure issues.  At prior meetings, the Committee discussed Rule 611, the Order Protection Rule of Regulation NMS, exchange access fees, and the current regulatory models for trading venues.
