    The benefits of shortening the settlement cycle for the secondary securities market is an issue on which many agree. Why is it, some have asked, that trades can now be executed in less than a millisecond, yet it still takes three full days for those trades to settle? The most likely answer is some combination of inertia, cost, and competing priorities. Unfortunately, the Commission must also shoulder some of the responsibility. It failed to demonstrate leadership on this issue when it elected not to follow up its 2004 concept release on the settlement cycle with a regulatory initiative.

  • SEC Pays More Than $3 Million To Whistleblower

    The Securities and Exchange Commission today announced a whistleblower award of more than $3 million to a company insider whose information helped the SEC crack a complex fraud.  The multi-million dollar payout is the third highest award to date under the SEC’s whistleblower program.
