ASX Monthly Activity Report - June 2017

The value of ASX-listed stocks, as measured by the All Ordinaries Index, remained flat in June 2017. This was in contrast to most major markets, including Japan up 1.9%, Singapore up 0.5%, the US up 0.5%, and Hong Kong up 0.4%. Germany was down 3.0% and the UK down 2.8%.

Brunei Darussalam and Singapore today celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Currency Interchangeability Agreement. To commemorate this special occasion, Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, and Mr Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister of Singapore, jointly launched a set of two $50 commemorative polymer notes, comprising one Brunei Darussalam $50 note and one Singapore $50 note, at a ceremony held at the Singapore Istana.

S&P Dow Jones Indices Index Dashboard: S&P Europe 350® Factor Indices Q2, 2017

• With volatility remaining low, the performances of our S&P Europe 350 factor indices ended up in a tight range in the second quarter. 
• Our European Quality, Value and Low Volatility factor indices outperformed by a percentage point or two, while Momentum underperformed. 
• A tilt towards value helped some dividend strategies to navigate a global pickup in bond yields better than others.

EBA Updated Risk Dashboard Shows Stable Capital Levels Amidst Efforts To Improve Banks Asset Quality And Profitability

The European Banking Authority (EBA) published today a periodical update of its Risk Dashboard. It summarises the main risks and vulnerabilities in the EU banking sector through a set of Risk Indicators in Q1 2017. Together with the Risk Dashboard, the EBA published the results of its Risk Assessment Questionnaire, which includes the opinions of banks and market analysts on the risk outlook between April and May this year.

We back the TCFD’s recommendation that all companies should prepare climate-related financial disclosures: “better information will help investors engage with companies on the resilience of their strategies and capital spending, which should help promote a smooth rather than an abrupt transition to a lower carbon economy”.
