The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) and the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) today announced the inaugural Afro-Asia FinTech Festival, to be held in Nairobi, Kenya, from 15 to 16 July 2019. Jointly organised by the two central banks, the Festival – the first of its kind globally – will provide a platform for connections, collaborations and exchange of ideas between Africa and Asia. It will also further boost the FinTech ecosystems in the two regions.

HKEX Selects Euroclear’s International ETF Structure

Euroclear Bank, the Brussels based international central securities depository (ICSD), and Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) have collaborated to enhance the distribution of European ETFs in Asia. HKEX has become the first stock exchange in Asia to adopt the ICSD ETF settlement model in Euroclear Bank.

McKay Brothers and Quincy Data today announced that they have connected the largest US equity exchanges at the lowest latency. The new services link equity exchanges in Mahwah, Carteret and Secaucus - the New Jersey Equity Triangle. McKay’s network is currently offering two-way market data and private bandwidth services between Mahwah and Carteret as well as Mahwah and Secaucus. The company will have one-way service from Carteret to Secaucus within days and expects two-way service in the third quarter.

- Market capitalisation was $34.3 trillion at the end of April 2019, a decrease of 2 per cent from $34.9 trillion at the end of April 2018.
- The average daily turnover in April 2019 was $104.2 billion, a decrease of 4 per cent from $108.4 billion in April 2018.
- The average daily turnover of CBBCs for the first four months of 2019 was $9.6 billion, an increase of 5 per cent when compared with $9.1 billion for the same period last year.
- The average daily turnover of Debt Securities for the first four months of 2019 was $0.3 billion, an increase of 50 per cent when compared with $0.2 billion for the same period last year.
- Funds raised through IPOs for the first four months of 2019 was $32.8 billion, an increase of 31 per cent when compared with $25.0 billion for the same period last year.
- On 8 April 2019, Northbound Trading under Stock Connect hit a new record with turnover of RMB76.3 billion.
