Since the first exchange-traded fund (“ETF”) launched in 1993, ETFs have proven to be one of the most useful and successful innovations in the registered fund space under the Investment Company Act (“Act”) of 1940. The innovation did not stop with that first ETF. Besides being one of the fund industry’s most successful financial innovations, ETFs have been, and have the potential to continue being, the wrapper within which future financial innovations occur. Today, I want to share my thoughts on how ETFs can be used to facilitate further financial experimentation and innovations and how the SEC can fulfill its role of protecting investors, facilitating capital formation, and fostering fair, orderly, and efficient markets without unnecessarily slowing this innovation. Nasdaq Stockholm Orders MaxFastigheter i Sverige AB To Pay A Fine Corresponding To Three Annual Fees

The Disciplinary Committee of Nasdaq Stockholm has found that MaxFastigheter i Sverige AB (”MaxFastigheter” or “the Company”) has breached the regulations of Nasdaq First North (“the Rulebook”) and has therefore ordered MaxFastigheter to pay a fine of three annual fees, corresponding to an amount of SEK 526,691.

FSB Publishes Updates On Work To Assess And Address Correspondent Banking Declines

The Financial Stability Board (FSB) today published two reports as part of its work:

• a progress report on the implementation of its action plan to assess and address the decline in correspondent banking relationships; and

• a report on progress on implementing the FSB’s recommendations on remittance service providers’ access to banking services.

U.S. and UK participants held the second meeting of the U.S.-UK Financial Regulatory Working Group (Working Group) on May 23, 2019 in Washington, DC. The Working Group was formed to deepen our bilateral regulatory cooperation with a view to the further promotion of financial stability; investor protection; fair, orderly, and efficient markets; and capital formation in both jurisdictions. This cooperation is especially important given transition in the United Kingdom’s regulatory relationships as it withdraws from the European Union.
