  • SEC Clarifies Investment Advisers’ Proxy Voting Responsibilities And Application Of Proxy Rules To Voting Advice

    The Securities and Exchange Commission today provided guidance to assist investment advisers in fulfilling their proxy voting responsibilities. The guidance discusses, among other matters, the ability of investment advisers to establish a variety of different voting arrangements with their clients and matters they should consider when they use the services of a proxy advisory firm.  In addition, the Commission issued an interpretation that proxy voting advice provided by proxy advisory firms generally constitutes a “solicitation” under the federal proxy rules and provided related guidance about the application of the proxy antifraud rule to proxy voting advice.  Both of these actions explain the Commission’s view of various non-exclusive methods entities can use to comply with existing laws or regulations or how such laws and regulations apply.

  • EBA Publishes Phase 2 Of Its Technical Package On Reporting Framework 2.9

    The European Banking Authority (EBA) published today a new release of the reporting framework 2.9, which includes the validation rules, the DPM data dictionary and XBRL taxonomies. The update reflects the amendments to the Implementing Technical Standards (ITS) on supervisory reporting related to FINREP and those to the ITS on benchmarking of internal approaches, both published on 16 of July 2019.

    Commodity prices, as measured by the Materials Price Index, fell another 0.9% last week, as growing recession fears again kept physical users on the sidelines and investors seeking safety in less risky asset classes. The US President’s announcement that some tariffs on Chinese imports would be postponed until December helped limit the retreat, however, with some stability returning to markets by week’s end. Indeed, five of the MPI’s 10 sub-categories posted gains for the week.

  • Share Of Investors In Financial Instrument Trading On GPW In H1 2019

    • Individual investors generated 13 percent (+1 pps YoY), foreign investors generated 59 percent (+3 pps YoY), and individual investors generated 28 percent (-4 pps YoY) of trading on the GPW Main Market in equities.
    • Individual investors remained in the lead on NewConnect as their share in trading increased by 4 pps YoY to 84 percent in H1 2019. The share of institutional investors dropped to 13 percent (-3 pps YoY) and the share of foreign investors dropped by 1 pps to 3 percent.
    • Domestic individual investors remained in the lead on the market in futures with a share of 50 percent in H1 2019 (+3 pps YoY). The share of institutional investors (30 percent) dropped by 7 pps while the share of foreign investors increased to 20 percent (+4 pps YoY).
